This piece consists of a 6 minute ASMR video showing the full restoration of the original 1961 Casper The Friendly Ghost Talking Doll. This iconic doll inspired the director of Toy Story, John Lasseter, to come up with the toy of Woody in said film, as he had it as a child growing up. Back in that time, it was an almost magical innovation that a toy could talk and come to life by pulling its string. Time has made this once very adorable and friendly doll look creepy and almost possessed by today's industry standards. The proceedings on this video done to the toy will consist of: a full body and head cleaning, peroxide whitening of the fabric and plastic, retouching and repainting the face where needed, and the reproduction of the original box where it came on. The video is filmed on a very clean flat background to focus only on the doll and procedures. The sound of the process is recorded with a very sensitive microphone to create the ASMR experience. In the end, "Bring me to life" will artificially erase the time that has passed, playing on the irony of "the friendly ghost" and the toy that comes to life. The contrast of life and death on an early toy that started a big and profitable industry that is currently dying with the rise of video games, tablets, and other digital media that children prefer to toys.
