Group Show

An exhibition that takes the pulse of the Zurich art scene

At last an overview! No one looking for an overview of the art currently being produced in and around Zurich can afford to miss the annual City of Zurich Art Grants exhibition. The grants are a key component of the city’s patronage of the arts and are awarded based on the works exhibited in the show. Those artists whose work the jury selects for inclusion in the second round of the competition are invited to submit a work to the exhibition. This makes it an event to look forward to for all those who like to keep their finger firmly on the pulse of the Zurich art scene.

The City of Zurich supports artists.
It awards them art grants, for example.
An art grant is a sum of money for a person who makes art.
It is like a prize awarded to an artist.
The artist can use the money to create more art.
Any artist who lives in the City of Zurich can apply for an art grant.
To apply, the artist sends a portfolio to the City of Zurich.
A portfolio is a collection of photos of works of art.
The portfolio must also contain the artist’s CV.
The portfolios are then presented to the jury.
The jury is a group of art experts.
The experts judge the portfolios.
They select the artists who impress them most.
The selected artists bring one work each to the Helmhaus.
The Helmhaus exhibits their works.
At the exhibition, the jury judges the works a second time.
The jury selects thirteen artists.
The thirteen artists each receive an art grant.
