Cristine Brache and Stephanie Seidel | Centerfolds | Bernheim London

Artist Talk

Date: Friday, 13 February 2026
Time: 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Location: Bernheim, LONDON

Join us for a conversation between artist Cristine Brache and Stephanie Seidel, Curator of Contemporary Art at Kunstmuseum Basel, at Bernheim Gallery, London. The discussion will delve into Centerfolds, Brache's first solo exhibition with Bernheim, exploring the three interrelated bodies of work across the gallery's three floors, which examine persona, obsolescence, alienation, and power dynamics.
Brache's entire body of work was catalysed by the discovery of Dorothy Stratten's poetry, a detail notably absent from most biographies and documentaries about her. As a poet, Brache was deeply affected by this omission. She was particularly struck by the profound contrast between the intimate, solitary inner life revealed in Stratten's writing and the public spectacle by which she is conventionally remembered.
About the Artist:
Cristine Brache (b. 1984, Miami, USA) lives and works in New York, USA. Brache is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores womanhood, trauma, and survival through personal and collective histories. Using installation, sculpture, text, and film, she examines how behaviors and appearances are shaped by oppressive environments. She addresses the institutionalisation of female pain, gaslighting, and the loss of meaning and time. Brache’s art reflects on solitude, nostalgia, and the psychological impact of historical erasure.
