Klodin Erb | Le Grand Dame | Centre culturel suisse. Paris

Solo Show

Dates: 19.09.26-24.12.26

Location: Centre Culturel Suisse, Paris

Exploring the emotions, fantasies, and big questions that permeate our lives, Klodin Erb presents her first solo exhibition in France. Drawing on art history, theatre, fashion, and popular culture, her work questions our desires, anxieties, and ways of inhabiting the world.

The Grand Drama transforms the Swiss Cultural Centre into a stage where tragedy rubs shoulders with the burlesque, sensitivity mingles with the absurd, and its figures evolve in a universe that is at once theatrical, sensual, and profoundly alive. Beneath the glass roof, Venusinfurs unfolds a series of monumental paintings bordered with textile trim. Inspired as much by depictions of the birth of Venus as by Roman Baroque ceilings, these works, populated by floating, entwined, or suspended bodies, offer a free and feminist reinterpretation of a long pictorial tradition. Perspectives shift, scales become blurred, and figures seem swept along in a continuous movement.

Created specifically for the exhibition, a new video work extends this universe. Beings that are part human, part animal, wander through a series of missed encounters, fragmented memories, and ghostly social interactions. Through them, Klodin Erb continues his exploration of memory, its distortions with age, and the fictions we construct to shape our lives.

With Le Grand Drame , the deeply colouristic and gestural painting, imbued with surreal moments, becomes decor, scene and character all at once.
