This fall, museums will once again be awash with new exhibitions. This year, five exhibitions by female artists in Switzerland stand out – here are our editorial picks.
OF POP AND FANTASY: KLODIN ERB - CURTAIN FALLS, DOG BARKS AT THE AARGAUER KUNSTHAUS
With Klodin Erb, it's difficult to look away. And once you've let go of her artworks with their crazy textures and eerie colors, they continue to haunt your mind. They tell of bottomless pits, fantastic figures, and wondrous concoctions. They may be foreign to you, yet you still get the feeling you know them from sometime, somewhere.
Erb, 62, who lives and works in Zurich and won the Prix Meret Oppenheim in 2022, is dedicated to painting, but not limited to it. The exhibition at the Aargauer Kunsthaus is her largest institutional solo show to date and explores the artist's approximately thirty-year oeuvre. Nevertheless, there will be no trace of chronology: After choosing one of the three entrances, visitors crisscross the museum's rooms, viewing videos and textile works, installations, and paintings.
There will even be costumes by Klodin Erb, worn in the two performances choreographed by Sophie Germanier in October and December. As part of the supporting program, fashion designer Mara Danz will hold a textile workshop in December. Finally, a publication will be published to coincide with the exhibition, which will serve as both an artist's book and an exhibition catalog and will likely become one thing above all else: a collector's item.
