This might sound odd to say but Cristine’s multi-hyphenate is a truly genuine one, as in she truly does all of those things fully, like her poetry, which includes the book Goodnight Sweet Thing, and her paintings, like this recent series of blurred polaroid-esque Playboy girls called Bunnies (I have a vivid memory of seeing a Polaroid of my grandfather surrounded by 3 bunnies at a “business conference in Florida” that these remind me of).
and this film, The Well which she recently posted on her Substack—check her out there too. I’m not usually in the business of linking to significant others, but since we talk about her husband so much in these questions, it seems relevant to say he’s also a prolific writer with a great substack.
It’s so refreshing to ask questions and receive advice from someone in a successful long-term relationship—a marriage, no less!—and the ease and comfort and confidence that comes from that is something we reflect on below. We talk about the psychic ineffable that can come with love, marriage as communion, and when and how to find respect for people you date. Also the perks and pitfalls of going “backwards” with an ex. I bring up the idea of “inside boyfriends,” a Carpenter-esque (Sabrina, that is) reality that I hope is not as prevalent for others as it has been in my life.
Once again, we find that in the end, it always comes down to what you want. So, dear reader, what do you want?
